Derbyshire Youth Offending Service is responsible for supervising young offenders aged 10-17 who have committed offences and have been processed by the criminal justice system. The service does this by identifying with young people those factors in their lives which are likely to lead them into offending and working with them to reduce those risk factors. The service also works with Community Safety Partnerships and others to develop interventions for young people who are at risk of becoming involved in offending.

Derbyshire Probation Service is a law enforcement agency, that works closely with the police, prison services, courts and the Crown Prosecution Service. In Derbyshire the Service works closely with Local Authorities/CSPs, statutory services and a range of independent and voluntary sector partners. Derbyshire Probation contributes to community safety through its direct work with offenders, by providing information and factors that contribute to higher levels of offending, by working with partners to reduce the impact of drug related crime, by targeting prolific offenders and through the provision of labour from offenders working on Community Punishment Orders.

Derbyshire Health Authority, Primary Care Trusts and the Drug and Alcohol Action Team work in partnership to deliver the national drugs strategy and alcohol strategy at local level and in response to local need. The DAAT is a partnership of agencies with a responsibility to tackle drug and alcohol misuse. These include Derbyshire Constabulary, CSPs, Derbyshire County Council, Derbyshire Probation Service, Derbyshire Youth Offending Service. Primary Care Trusts are also partners with other organisations in a range of health and social care-related initiatives including Community Safety/Crime and Disorder and Local Strategic Partnerships.

DCC Community Safety Unit co-ordinate the Countys Community Safety Action Plan aimed at mainstreaming community safety and provide support and advice on county council issues to the Community Safety Partnerships. It works with the County Crime and Disorder Network to achieve objectives that are best co-ordinated at a County Level and works with the Regional Crime Reduction Team who co-ordinate responses to regional issues.

Neighbourhood Watch is the best known and most effective example of the community working together to prevent crime, reduce the fear of crime and improve quality of life. They work in consultation with the police and CSPs and find out from local people what crimes most concern and affect them and focus on those specific problems.

Groundwork Cresswell work with the CSP to help improve the quality of life for local communities, addressing crime and the fear of crime with its Safer Communities programme. Projects have installed lighting, fencing, smoke and burglar alarms and secure locks on properties.
