The Neighbourhood Renewal Fund was set up by the Government to enable the identified 88 most deprived areas in England improve services through their Local Strategic Partnership to narrow the gap between these deprived areas and the rest of England.
The Governments Spending Reviews in 2000 and 2002 increased the resources going into mainstream services and provided the additional Neighbourhood Renewal Fund monies to help start the process of neighbourhood renewal. The Bolsover district is a Neighbourhood Renewal Area in receipt of Neighbourhood Renewal Funds.
Bolsover Local Strategic Partnership allocated £2.5 million Neighbourhood Renewal monies in 2005/06 and will allocate over £4 million through 2006-2008.
The fund is intended to provide additional resources to improve mainstream services in the most deprived areas of Bolsover district, including contributing to the achievement of floor targets to narrow the gap between deprived areas and the rest of the country.
Floor targets have been set by government across a range of issues that affect deprived areas. A key element of Neighbourhood Renewal is the improvement of mainstream service in deprived areas such as increased employment, improved economic performance, reduced crime, improved education, better health and better housing.
