05 Mar 2007 - Bolsover Stop Smoking Advisor appointed
North Derbyshire Stop Smoking Service
- increase referrals to the Stop Smoking Service from people living within the Bolsover District;
- increase the numbers of people successfully quitting
- reduce health inequalities in the District.
North Derbyshire Stop Smoking Service provides free and confidential stop smoking support and advice to individuals who are motivated to quit. Prescriptions for Nicotine Replacement Therapy or Zyban are arranged through the GP and support is delivered in a variety of formats from attending group clinics, walk-in consultations or one-to-one support.
Jenny Godfrey, Stop Smoking Advisor for the Bolsover District said I want to work with as many local agencies and organisations as possible to increase awareness of the service. I want to make the service as accessible and flexible as possible to suit the needs of the local communities
.
This could mean bringing the service to venues such as working mens clubs like the one run at Shirebrook Miners Welfare. Holding rolling programmes and walk in sessions regularly means that the service is available to everyone.
Its an ideal time for smokers to have a quit attempt as the new smoke free legislation comes into force on 1st July 2007 , which will mean that any public enclosed space or workplace will have to go smoke free by law. For further information, visit www.smokefreederbyshire.co.uk .
