17 Nov 2009 - Relentless Clean Up in Creswell
The clean-up day, organised and funded by Derbyshire Constabulary and Bolsover District Council as part of Operation Relentless, saw a team of police and council officers and workers with the probation service tackle waste issues on Duke Street.
Residents joined in the clean-up on Wednesday, October 28th filling nine skips with bulky waste from gardens and open spaces. Trees and weeds on footpaths were also cut back to make the area look cleaner and tidier.

PC James Shirley, of the Creswell Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "The clean-up was a great opportunity for the police and council to interact with residents and create a sense of well-being by helping them achieve a clean, tidy environment to live in.
"We hope the sense of pride created by the clean up will encourage residents to maintain the area and report any fly tipping if it occurs."
The clean-up was held as part of Operation Relentless - Safe and Confident; a six week partnership initiative aimed at improving communities and reducing anti-social behaviour in all its forms.
Julie Lewis, project co-ordinator for Bolsover District Council, said: "The day was very successful, residents were happy to join in and even young children came to help pick up litter.

"At the end of the day residents thanked us for our help and one gentleman said the area hadn't looked as clean in 30 years."
A meeting has been arranged to discuss the sustainability of the clean up, forming of a residents group and any further issues concerning Duke Street at the Social Centre, Elmton Road, on Wednesday, November 25th at 10am.
A similar clean-up carried out in Whitwell on Wednesday, October 14th was also a big success with eight skips of rubbish removed from Holmefield Road, Larpit Green and Calf Croft.
