On your bike! Steering towards new opportunities
Young and unemployed people in rural parts of Derbyshire are steering towards new opportunities in the employment stakes thanks to an innovative scheme partially funded by the Bolsover Local Strategic Partnership and hosted by Derbyshire Rural Community Council.
As part of a project known as STEER, thirty scooters are now being loaned out to young and unemployed people in the remotest part of the Peak District to help them exploit training or employment opportunities otherwise not open to them due to lack of transportation. A third of these scooters have become available through Neighbourhood Renewal Funding (NRF) made available by the Bolsover Local Strategic Partnership
Project co-ordinator Sandie Abberley said:
Single parents have been helped along with young people trying to combine a college course with part-time employment who until this scheme had to rely solely on lifts.
