Bolsover Wellness -
The Local Strategic Partnership's successful scheme, Bolsover Wellness, is now reaching its third year in operation. To date, there have been over 13,000 attendances. Those attending take part in the many broad ranging activities offered. These include circuit training, Tai Chi, Waistwatchers, chair-based exercise, Change for Life and swimming sessions. The programme is run from Creswell and Kissingate Leisure Centres, Tibshelf Cardiac Club and Hilstown Miners Welfare. A cardiac support group is also run from Creswell Leisure Centre on Friday afternoons.
Since the first referral was taken on 21st May 2004 the scheme has achieved:
1. 832 referrals at Creswell and Kissingate leisure centres.
2. There have been 13,000 attendances.
3. 50% of clients have continued exercising after their initial 12 weeks.
4. There are 13 surgeries involved in the scheme. Also Bolsover, Chesterfield and Bassetlaw hospitals refer to the scheme.
5. 66 medical professionals refer to the scheme.
6. There are 75 different medical conditions people have been referred for.
7. 9 Chair based classes take place per week since June 2004 to which there has been 3701 attendances.
8. 250 elderly people attend the warm water session at Creswell Leisure Centre each week.
9. Established classes include Gym, Aqua fit, Chair based exercise, Circuit Training, Swimming and aerobics.
10. The cardiac support group also based at Creswell Leisure centre celebrates its first birthday on the 19th of March. 20 members a week attend the group.
11. Outreach sessions in conjunction with Hillstown community centre enable the people of Bolsover to have a local facility to attend sessions.
12. Partnerships and links to other health providers such as Chesterfields Walk this way and Health promotion, working with North East Derbyshire District Council, continue to deliver success.
13. The Bolsover Wellness Programme is one of the first groups in the area to pilot the Health Trainers programme to promote healthy lifestyles in the community.
