LOCAL AREA AGREEMENTS AND LOCAL PRIORITIES
Tuesday 4 July 2006 - Manchester
Repeated due to popular demand
Following on from LSPs and using the Community Strategies as the foundation, Local Area Agreements are the new local vehicle for supporting regeneration. This event explains what they are, how the guidelines recommend they should work, and looks at how and why they are interpreted so differently. We will consider how changing the structure may enable topics not formally covered, such as the environment, to gain influence. The three Local Area Agreement blocks of Children & Youth, Safer & Stronger Communities, plus Health & the Elderly can incorporate many social and demographic changes, there are also strategic bodies such as the RDA, LEAs, the Health Primary Care Trusts, and the Government Offices to consider. This introductory event is suitable for staff in Local Authorities who are new to LAAs, staff in transition, LSP officers and all the connected agencies (as specified above). The voluntary sector is crucial in the delivery of LAA policies, so the event will also benefit staff from voluntary organisations with a role in local delivery and who work with people from other areas and disciplines.
GOVERNMENT POLICY AND REGENERATION
Wednesday 5 July 2006 - Manchester
Repeated due to popular demand
TThe government is pushing the policy 'envelope' in every direction; how does this affect you? From health to community, from the police to Cleaner, Safer, Greener. We will discover what is statutory and what is guidance, where the cross connections are, and how to use them. We will explore how most of the current big ideas are based on Neighbourhood Renewal (note ETN's event on Local Area Agreements and local priorities on 4 July 06 ). We will also decipher (most of) the jargon and try to indicate where the funding sources which change frequently might be. However, this is NOT a fundraising event. The event is ideal for people who havent had time to follow the past 9 years of government initiatives, and for those trying to make connections across policies. It will benefit staff in local authorities working on Community Strategy reviews, officers setting up Local Area Agreements and dealing with cross-cutting departments. It is also suitable for voluntary organisations wishing to influence policy, identify funding streams, as well as community activists and Regeneration staff in Agencies (such as Health, Police, LEAs, Housing etc.) and other Regional bodies.
MOTIVATING COMMUNITIES TO TAKE ACTION
Thursday 13 July 2006 - Sheffield
Repeated due to popular demand
Want to develop your skills in community engagement? Want to learn new techniques for involving communities in local environmental issues? Want to explore new ways of motivating communities to take practical action? This event will look at identifying and overcoming barriers to attitude and behavioural change, to enable you to develop strategies which will engage and motivate local communities, bringing about changes in behaviour and practical action. It is aimed at those working with local communities to bring about positive environmental change in areas such as regeneration, transport, waste and recycling, healthy eating, home energy conservation and inclusion. Examples of those who will benefit from this event might include sustainability officers, regeneration officers, environmental coordinators, community liaison workers, information and education workers.
WORKING WITH SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES ON CLIMATE AND ENERGY
Tuesday 18 July 2006 - Manchester
Repeated due to popular demand
There is ever increasing concern about climate change - its potential impacts and what we can do about it. There is also growing interest in actions to promote energy efficiency, affordable warmth and the use of renewable energy. This new event will explore approaches to teaching and learning about these issues and how schools might work together with the community, voluntary sector, local authorities and business to explore these challenges and opportunities in the wider context of sustainable development - and the potential for developing practical community based responses. The event will be of interest to teachers, local authority and voluntary sector officers either engaged or interested in working with schools and the community on these issues.
