16 Aug 2006 - Radio Sheffield features partnership green scheme
BBC Radio Sheffield's Andy Kershaw visited Bolsover district on Monday 14 August to see how community-led partnership schemes were making a difference to the area.
Andy met and interviewed Bolsover Local Strategic Partnership (BLSP) representatives and project leaders throughout the day and was impressed with what he heard. The main reason for the visit was to see how the Grot to Green initiative was fairing and to interview those involved in the clean-up campaign, but Andy was shown a variety of local projects which received partnership support.
Grot to Green began when INVOLVE, the community empowerment network for the District, were commissioned by the Bolsover Local Strategic Partnership Housing and Environment Action Group to support community-led environmental projects. These projects are now happening district-wide with litter picks, rubbish removal and graffiti clean-ups improving areas throughout the District.
An INVOLVE colleague said, " Alot of hard work has gone into this project and it has not been easy, but the hard work and rewards are there for all to see".
Recorded interviews were 'aired' on Thursday 17th August. Local clean up initiatives in Creswell, Doe Lea, Whalley Thorns and Hillstown were featured as well as other LSP projects including Limestone House, Creswell - an education and heritage centre in the village that has received significant LSP support through Neighbourhood Renewal Funding.
The Centre has become very popular. It has around 22,000 visits to the shops and heritage display a year. In addition, over 4000 people a year visit the education centre to study.
